WRITING - God is Unapproachable

Updated: Jan 2, 2021

God is unapproachable.

Don't let that stop you from trying to approach Him, but understand it is not something you will ever accomplish through your own efforts.

Moses asked to be shown God's glory. God told Him "I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you. But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see me and live."

God then had Moses hide in the crevice of a rock and He covered him with His own hand as He passed by.

The only thing that could protect Moses from God,
….was God.

That can be intimidating… To consider the unstoppable majesty of the God of creation.

And that is a good thing. The bible says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

But surely that's not how we want to think of Jesus when we remember him as a baby is it?

Consider this.

God knows He is unapproachable. He created us with all our strengths and weaknesses. He knows everything about us, everything that brings us joy and every shameful secret that we try to bury in the dark recesses of our hearts and minds.

Fully aware of all this, the unapproachable God, approached *us* in the most helpless way imaginable. He set aside His glory and took upon Himself our weakness and frailty.

He did what we could not.

He crossed the gap caused by sin, and built a bridge using His own body so that we might finally,

joyfully,

boldly,

...approach Him

The hope, peace, love and joy of this season all exist in their complete perfection in the person of Jesus Christ, Immanuel, God with us.

The unapproachable God - who made himself approachable.
