SDG Creative podcast

In today's episode:

  • Travis T and the Counting Sheep - I share an excerpt from an upcoming children's book, Travis T and the Counting Sheep. If it tickles your fancy (or your toes) and you would like to read an advance copy before I finish the illustrations, email me at Benny@sdgcreative.net If it tickles you anywhere else...keep it to yourself.

  • A message to my kids - Why Does God Let Bad Things Happen? The answer may be love.

  • Song Libs - Space Marine and I tackle I'm Yours by Jason Mraz and do horrible things to it.

  • If Only is an original song inspired by a real human. You can download it February 1st at SDGcreative.net/music.

  • Take a Poll - I'm curious what is working and what is not in this podcast. Participate in a brief poll to help me make it cooler.

Be the One

  • Theophilus Finnegan Jones III: Space Vampire - This is the first part in a serial sci-fi fantasy comedy.

  • Theophilus Finnegan Jones III: Space Vampire - I affectionately refer to it as the "writer's block book". When I get hung up on one of my other projects I pull this out and work on it. I have super low expectations for it which makes it way easier to write than things that matter to me. Regardless, the kids find it hilarious, so maybe you'll like it too.

  • A message to my kids - Be the One! When everyone around you sucks, be the one who doesn't

  • You are amazing. Be amazing. As you grow and learn and change and live hold fast to this idea: Be the one who remains faithful. Be the one who follows hard after God. Be the one who doesn't suck, even when everyone else does. I love you.

  • Creative Tips and Tricks - How To See A Year: A mini project for creating a visual aid to help planning your creative year.

  • Behind the Song - Where the Omelet Song came from

  • The Omelet Song - Produced by APG

  • APG is Above Pete's Garage an incredible company ran by an incredible guy. If you're within driving distance of the Adrian, MI area and want/need audio or visual mentoring I cannot recommend APG highly enough.

  • PSA from a Weirdo - Carbon is bad (the video is just as bad, click here to watch it)

  • This just happened one day on the way home from work. I can't help but think this guy is going to make further appearances.

Focus

  • Theophilus Finnegan Jones III: Space Vampire - This is the second part in a serial sci-fi fantasy comedy.

  • PARENTS: As the story goes on it will get a bit edgier. There's no sex and no real vulgarities but there is a lot of violence. I'm okay with that. I grew up reading things like Beetle Bailey and I have yet to turn into a gun-toting sociopath. If that's not for you, skip ahead to the next section silly.

  • A message to my kids - Focus What you focus on comes into focus.

  • My primary prayer you is to get to know God. Why? It's hard to love someone you don't know. It's hard not to love someone loveable if you do know them. Confused? That's okay, just listen to the podcast.

  • Creative Tips and Tricks - Mixing Paint and Stain

  • It can totally be done. Make sure your solvents match. Water based stain with water based paint, etc. As a special bonus tip I explain how I got the sharp lines on my table top below with stain.

  • Behind the Song - "I Love You Adeline"

  • How this song is different from the other songs I've written for my kids

  • I Love You Adeline - Produced by APG

  • APG is Above Pete's Garage an incredible company ran by an incredible guy. If you're within driving distance of the Adrian, MI area and want/need audio or visual mentoring I cannot recommend APG highly enough.

  • Conversation with Myself - If I focus for too long on one project I can become blind to things that need correction. Sometimes I just gotta be weird. This helps.

  • This whole bit was improv'd and I was actually pretty entertained by the result. I hope you like it!

  • 10:54 - Behind the Song - Where the Omelet Song came from
